Tanya Chutkan : was born in Jamaica on July 5, 1962.
She got her Bachelor's degree from George Washington University in 1983. Then,
she went to the University of Pennsylvania Law School where she was an editor
for the University of Pennsylvania Law Review. She graduated with a Juris
Doctor in 1987. After that, she worked at a law firm called Hogan & Hartson
(now Hogan Lovells) from 1987 to 1990. Then, she worked at Donovan, Leisure,
Rogovin, Huge & Schiller from 1990 to 1991. From 1991 to 2002, she was a
trial attorney and supervisor at the Public Defender Service for the District
of Columbia. In 2002, she joined Boies, Schiller & Flexner and became a
partner in 2007. She focused on complex civil litigation and antitrust class
action cases.

District Court for the District of Columbia? And she was like, Sure, why not?
Then, on February 25, 2014, she had a hearing with the United States Senate
Judiciary Committee. They must have liked her because on March 27, 2014, they
reported her nomination out of committee by a voice vote. Then, on June 3,
2014, the United States Senate was all like, "Let's vote on this Chutkan
lady." And they did, with 54 people saying yes and 40 people saying
"no." Finally, on June 4, 2014, they confirmed her nomination with a
unanimous 95-0 vote. And just like that, she became a judge on June 5, 2014.
